2027 CX-90 Updates
The 2027 Mazda CX-90 introduces a new two-row configuration, refined rear suspension components for improved ride comfort, and four new exterior paint colors. These changes are available across specific trims, while all models now feature standard i-Activ all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Three things set the 2027 CX-90 apart from last year's model. Mazda now builds a two-row version of the CX-90. Every CX-90 also gets reworked rear suspension hardware meant to settle the ride over broken pavement, and four new paint colors arrive, alongside a handful of features that move to standard on certain trims.
Every version pairs its engine with an eight-speed automatic and i-Activ all-wheel drive. Here is our take from Scherer Mazda in Peoria on what each update means for you.

Key details
Who is the two-row CX-90 for?
The headline change for 2027 is a new two-row configuration of the CX-90.
You can get it in two flavors: 3.3 Turbo Premium Sport or 3.3 Turbo S Premium Sport. A one-touch control drops the second-row seats automatically, which makes it easier to load a long box from the hardware store.
If your household rarely uses a third row, this is the version worth a test drive. If you haul more gear than people, a two-row SUV fits that life well.
Does the 2027 CX-90 ride better?
That is Mazda's goal. Across the whole lineup, the rear crossmember has been revised and the rear bushings updated, with passenger comfort on rough roads as the stated target.
Anyone who drives around Peoria after a hard winter knows why that matters. Freeze-and-thaw cycles can leave patched, uneven streets, and rear-seat passengers tend to feel those seams. We will reserve judgment until we have driven one on our own roads, but the engineering target is the right one for this part of the state.
Plug-in hybrid buyers get one more refinement: Mazda wrapped the PHEV's electric drive motor in external insulation so it runs more quietly at low speed, which is exactly where you spend most of a stop-and-go trip across town.
The lineup
Which trims gained standard features?
The equipment changes are narrow and specific. Here they are, feature first:
| Newly standard feature | Where it appears for 2027 |
|---|---|
| Roof rails | 3.3 Turbo Preferred |
| Alexa Built-In | Premium Sport and PHEV Premium Plus |
| Mazda Online Navigation, with over-the-air updates | 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus and PHEV Premium Plus |
Mazda lists nine 2027 trims across the 3.3 Turbo, PHEV and 3.3 Turbo S families. Crowning the lineup is the 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus, a seven-seater with second-row captain's chairs separated by a center console and a three-seat third row.
The 3.3 Turbo Preferred is easy to pick out, since Mazda gives it standard 21-inch silver metallic wheels. Inside, it moves to a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus wireless phone charging. 3.3 Turbo models with the third-row bench can carry up to eight passengers.
Colors
What colors are new for 2027?
Four paint names are new to the CX-90 this year. Navy Blue Mica and Aero Grey Metallic are joined by Melting Copper Metallic and Zircon Sand Metallic. The copper and sand shades are a warmer direction than the grays and whites that fill most school pickup lines, and Mazda reserves both for two-row models.
Mazda's 2027 premium paint list also covers shades such as Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Rhodium White Premium and Artisan Red Premium. Beyond Navy Blue Mica, Mazda has not published the full list of standard colors.
Capability
Engines, all-wheel drive and towing
There are three ways to power the 2027 model, and each suits a different driver.
- 3.3 Turbo: on regular 87-octane gas, the e-Skyactiv G 3.3 Turbo engine makes 332 lb-ft and 280 horsepower.
- 3.3 Turbo S: fill it with the recommended 91-octane premium and you get 369 lb-ft and as much as 340 horsepower; on 87 octane, horsepower is 319.
- PHEV: pairing a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor and a 17.8-kWh battery, the plug-in hybrid delivers 369 lb-ft and 323 horsepower on recommended 91-octane fuel.
Every version uses an eight-speed automatic with standard i-Activ AWD, which is reassuring when a January snow squall rolls across the Illinois River valley. If you pull a camper or boat, the Turbo S is the one with a published rating: 5,000 pounds in Mi-Drive Towing mode, provided it is fitted with Mazda Genuine Towing Accessories.
Safety equipment starts with 10 airbags on every trim.

- When the 2027 model goes on sale.
- Official EPA mileage, plug-in hybrid efficiency included.
- Whether the standard turbo and the plug-in hybrid carry a tow rating.
- How much cargo room the two-row version offers.
- Crash-test results.

Is the 2027 worth waiting for over a 2026?
It depends on what you need.

Wait if a smoother ride tops your list
If ride comfort on rough roads is your top concern, the rear suspension updates are a genuine reason to wait. If you can, ride in a current CX-90 over a familiar patched street first so you have a baseline to compare.
Buy a 2026 if you need three rows now
If you need a three-row SUV now and a 2026 already has the features you want, buying sooner makes sense. Ask us which 2026 trims are available and line them up against the 2027 changes above.
